AFEE Catch-Up: Year-End News

Hello, evolutionary economists!

Things have been relatively quiet on the AFEE front, but there are a few pieces of news to share with you all.

First and foremost, our election results are in! Congratulations to our new officers and board members:
President: John Watkins
President-elect: Mary Wrenn
Board members: Thomas Kemp & Anna Klimina

Thanks to all who voted for our officers, and to our nominating committee: Tae Hee-Jo (chair), Luke Petach, Joshua Greenstein, Cheng Hao, and Eric Hake.

Second, the video recording of the WINIR Debate from December 15 on “The Great Enrichment: Did Institutions Matter?” is now online here. If you missed it, check it out! The panelists, Deirdre McCloskey and Geoff Hodgson, kindly provided some amiable notes summarizing their positions on the question. Both sets of notes are available for download.

Finally, the 2021 Association for Institutional Thought Meeting’s call for papers can be found here. This year’s theme is “Reality: The Value of Institutional Empiricism” and meetings will be held virtually April 12-25. The submission deadline is later than usual: January 29, 2021. Please consider participating! You can submit your abstracts — and get more details — here.

Stay tuned for more announcements as we enter 2021! Hope you all have a wonderful New Year’s, and here’s hoping the vaccine rollout gets us back to in-person meetings and socialization soon.
