This week’s member highlight is: Felipe Almeida! Dr. Almeida was recently elected to the AFEE board and serves as our International Director.
Dr. Almeida is an associate professor of economics at the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil. Since his M.A. and Ph.D. years, he has been dealing with theoretical contributions to original institutional economics (OIE). Regarding theoretical issues, his main theoretical concern is the institutionalist approach to decision-making. In his studies, Dr. Almeida introduced possibilities to connect modern psychology to original institutionalists’ approach to decision-making. Analyzing the American Pragmatic Philosophers who influenced institutionalism’s founding fathers also became part of Dr. Almeida’s theoretical research.
In recent years, Dr. Almeida started to study the history of OIE, focusing primarily on the importance of Clarence Ayres for the development of OIE during the mid-20th century. These research themes has been pushing him to study the organization of institutionalist associations AFEE and AFIT. Investigating paths taken by heterodox studies is also a part of Dr. Almeida’s research interests. In this field, he bibliometrically studies papers published by heterodox journals.
OIE is also an important part of Dr. Almeida’s teaching. He is an associate professor of economics at the Federal University of Paraná. In this role, he teaches students about OIE and supervises M.A. and Ph.D. candidates. Dr. Almeida’s main goal as a professor and in the Ph. D. and M. A. courses is to keep OIE alive and important.
Felipe Almeida has been regularly presenting his work at AFEE sessions at ASSA. In 2018, he received the James H. Street Scholar Award. You can follow him on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with current research and what he is doing.
